SUNSPOT ASTRONOMY AND VISITOR CENTER

In the front courtyard of the Center is an armillary sphere which is similar to a sundial. Designed by Don Neidig, it gives the visitor experience with apparent motion of the Sun.


Located in Sunspot, NM, the Sunspot Astronomy and Visitor Center provides an interactive astronomical experience through activities, displays, and informational exhibits. The Center is jointly supported by:


Apache Point Observatory and the National Solar Observatory Sacramento Peak support informational exhibits at the Center.


 

The Center offers facilities for public lectures and workshops, as well as a gift shop.


Please contact the Visitor Center directly for their current hours of operation. Large groups are welcome.

From El Paso, TX take highway 54 north to highway 82 in Alamogordo. From Las Cruces, take highway 70/82 east to Alamogordo. There, take highway 82 east to Cloudcroft. In Cloudcroft, turn right onto highway 130 and follow 130 to highway 6563 (toward Sunspot). Turn right onto 6563. After approximately 17 miles, enter the National Solar Observatory and follow the signs to the Visitor Center.
