- 2020-02-03: No change in instrument status. We reseated all the electronics readout cards. Waiting to see if this helped with the number of resets required.
- 2020-01-27: No change in instrument status. Still intermittently producing zero or corrupted images.
- 2020-01-13: The instrument is producing zeros for array values intermittently after some handling or long instrument rotations. Please inspect your data carefully and inform the observing specialist when seem. A simple reset of the array electronics has been effective to temporarily correcting the problem. Further troubleshooting is in the process.

- 2019-09-23: The instrument has started producing intermittent bad readouts. The users are requested to look closely at their data and report andy bad looking images to the observing specialist. A reset of the electronics nominally corrects the anomaly. We are still trying to learn what is triggering these failures.

- 2018-01-18: The ICC is back up and running on a new (older style) PC. It required a different network cark and video cards. Many of the hardware drivers needed to be rebuilt. The problem is not completely resolved given the Windows license is only a temporary 30 day work around. Jon has a month to get with Microsoft to fix the licensing. This may be a issue given they do not support XP any longer.
- 2017-12-20: The ICC has failed. The computer will not boot but the disk when put in another chasis seems to be ok. Something wrong with the mother board? BIOS? Looking for an older PC to rebuild the system.
- 2017-12-20: The ICC has failed. It looks like a HD given the system will not boot.
- 2017-12-20: The instrument control computer (ICC) failed while it was being relocated in the computer room.
- 2017-10-30: The instrument has been operating nominally.
- 2017-07-10: The instrument was used last night in many different orientations. This morning when it was dismunted from the telescope the ion pump was reading high load and vacuum appeared to be soft (7e-6T). Tapping on the ion pump itself brought the controller off High Load and within 30 - 40 minutes vacuum readings returned to nominal values.
- 2017-07-08: The instrument has been operating nominally.
- 2017-06-19: The instrument has been operating nominally.
- 2017-04-17: There were three reported instances of the instrument needing resets over the weekend due to corrupted images. This may be note worthy because it has been very rare since 2012 that this problem has occured. I want to aanotate this as the time this has happened. However it is also noteworthy that Nicfps use has made gone up since triplespec has been unavailable for science and we are just seeing more of these occurances as a result rather than there being a sudden increase in their frequency. We will continue to monitor them.
- 2016-05-12: Nicfps is cold again after changing the ion pump, pumping and cooling. Rotation restriction has been listed.
- 2016-02-22: Nicfps ION pump is having some issues near the end of its lifetime. If the instrument is rotated past +/- 100 degrees vacuum becomes soft and system temperatures begin to rise. We will be restricting rotations at NA2 until new parts can arrive (on order) and they can be scheduled for a full vacuum servicing. This may be April at the earliest. The observing specialists will restrict rotations to +/-90 degrees and can assist observers in choosing a rotation based on their targets.
- 2016-01-25: Instrument has had no reported problems at this time.
- 2015-11-30: Some resets and reboots recently due to corrupted or noisy images. Still appears intermittent. Will continue to monitor
- 2013-06-04: Ion pump was swapped and instrument on vaccum pump for the past 4 days. Cooled down today. Will do a functional test tomorrow after Leech controller has been reinstalled.
- 2013-05-31: Warming the instrument for vacuum servicing. The ion pump failed last night
- 2013-01-17: The instrument is currently not usable for Fowler Sampling modes > 8. NFS 8 and below still work fine.
- 2012-01-24: NICFPS still experiences intermittent failures since the fall of 2010. Please coordinate with the observing specialist for monitoring of failures and recovery modes as you take data. More information can be found here.

- 2012-08-10: The NICFPS ICS Hard drive failed bringing the instrument back up. Fritz was able to install a new hard drive and reinstall the most current version of the software. A back-up was done at the same time.
